Enhancing health and safety at a construction site in the United States

Case Study

Boosting Health & Productivity for Construction Workers

Ribbon

Overview

A high-tech plant building contractor in the United States partnered with us to enhance its workforce health and wellbeing, aiming to boost productivity and reduce injuries. The collaboration focused on developing and delivering two construction-specific health education programs: Mental Health Promotion and Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention. Workshops, handouts, posters, and health talks were developed by our  local and global subject matter experts and delivered by our on-site Medical Personnel. The programs successfully decreased musculoskeletal injuries, improved health and safety standards and compliance, strengthened corporate reputation, and minimised medical case referrals outside of the site.

Problem

Staffed with our Onsite Medical Professionals, the Health, Safety and Environment management team sought to further enhance workforce health and wellbeing to improve productivity and reduce injuries. They needed assistance in developing and delivering professional content for two health education programs specific for the construction industry:

  • Mental Health Promotion
  • Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention

Solution

Our Medical Services Team in the United States and Global Health Content Professionals reviewed, scoped, and deployed the necessary medical expert team to design and create various programs' deliverables, including:

  • Workshops
  • Handouts
  • Posters
  • Health and Safety Content

The Onsite Medical Professionals received training and delivered the content to the site workforce through developing a series of health talks around mental health, ergonomics, and associated injury prevention.. They collected program KPIs and reported utilisation statistics.

Impact

The successful implementation of the programs led to positive health and wellbeing outcomes, including a decrease in musculoskeletal injuries and disorders. It also enabled robust reporting on the programs’ KPIs, demonstrating the ROI through:

  • Enhanced workforce wellbeing
  • Improved health and safety standards and records
  • Strengthened corporate reputation and Duty of Care
  • Increased productivity and compliance
  • Fewer out-of-project medical case referrals
