Overview
International SOS Consulting partnered with one of the globe's largest energy corporations, operating across the oil and gas value chain, encompassing exploration and production, storage, and pipeline transportation. Together, we conducted a comprehensive assessment and gap analysis of their psychological hazard risk management programme.
The global energy giant recognised the importance of prioritising workforce wellbeing and sought assurance regarding the efficacy of their psychological hazard risk management programme. Entrusted with this pivotal task, International SOS Consulting embarked on a thorough journey to evaluate, pinpoint, and elevate the core of their employee wellbeing initiative.
Problem
Our client had an existing psychological hazard risk management programme but needed to ascertain its suitability in safeguarding the psychological safety of its workforce. They aimed to ensure that their programme also met legislative and Duty of Care compliance requirements, safeguarding the company's brand and mitigating the risk of litigation.
Solution
We delivered a dual-phased solution consisting first of an investigation, followed by an implementation of the related outcomes. Our approach began with a familiarisation with the organisation, involving stakeholder calls to grasp the contextual nuances of their work environment. This contextual understanding was instrumental in assessing our proposed control measures. Subsequently, we conducted a thorough assessment of up to 10 control measures for each of the 21 psychosocial hazards, considering factors such as reach, relevance, likelihood of effectiveness, and supporting evidence. Our deliverables included a comprehensive report summarising the assessments of control measures, suggesting revisions based on desktop analysis, identifying gaps in psychosocial hazard coverage, and recommending parameters for the implementation phase.
Impact
Implementing this solution has enhanced psychosocial safeguards tailored to the organisation's unique context. By ensuring compliance with legislative and Duty of Care requirements the organisation improving their risk management approach, fostering a positive workplace culture, and aligning with best practices. This has not only positioned the organisation as a leader in employee wellbeing and safety but will result in long-term benefits, including cost reduction, fewer workplace incidents, and a more engaged workforce, ultimately contributing to improved organisational performance and employee satisfaction.
