Health Impact in the Community

Extending the Impact of Health Programmes Beyond the Workforce

Private sector organisations share a responsibility to support the communities in which they operate. A powerful way to fulfil this obligation is to invest in community health programmes, collaborate with local health systems and add philanthropic support to local communities.

Community health programmes can help prevent the spread of diseases, improve access to healthcare services, and promote healthy behaviours among local populations which can have positive economic and social benefits. Furthermore, investing in community health can help build goodwill and positive relationships with local communities, which can enhance a company's reputation and brand image.

Beyond this are the valuable expertise and resources private sector organisations bring themselves, strengthening local healthcare systems, upskilling healthcare workers and developing sustainable solutions that address the unique health challenges faced by remote communities around the world.

Between 2030 and 2050, climate change is expected to cause approximately 250,000 additional deaths per year, from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhoea and heat stress *

DELIVERING COMMUNITY PROGRAMMES FOR THE ENERGY, MINING & INFRASTRUCTURE SECTORS

We help organisations with a local footprint invest in delivering positive health outcomes within the communities in which they operate. From the set-up of local medical facilities to malaria control programmes to health outreach programmes and health promotion.

TACKLING NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASES IN THE COMMUNITY

Lifestyle behaviours such as unhealthy diets, lack of physical activity, and tobacco use are major risk factors for hypertension, diabetes, and cancer, which can lead to premature death or disability. We provide community health checks and develop health education programmes aimed at preventing chronic diseases and improving overall health outcomes.

HEALTH IMPACT ASSESSMENTS

We help organisations assess the potential health impact of their projects on the health of the local community and provide actionable recommendations on how to address them. Our HIA methodology and global presence means we can mobilise resources and provide local knowledge and support in most locations.

DELIVERING COMMUNITY-BASED VACCINATION PROGRAMMES IN REMOTE LOCATIONS

During COVID-19 we worked closely with the Papua New Guinean and Australian Governments to support vaccine administration. We created a community engagement media programme promoting vaccine safety and science to support vaccine uptake.

Charting Progress Towards a Public-Private Action Framework in Global Health

On October 16, 2023, on the margins of the World Health Summit, the Business Council on International Understanding (BCIU) and International SOS convened a multi-sectoral panel of experts to discuss progress made in leveraging the wider private sector towards achieving global health goals. The panel highlighted the importance of public-private sector engagement and called for a new model to leverage private sector expertise and resources to accelerate joint action and deliver impactful solutions on a larger scale.
